We heard this diner was a must-go-to place for breakfast so we checked it out for a little weekend brunch. The wait was not too long and the servers were very attentive when we were seated. They were very helpful in answering any questions we had. The diner itself definitely has that authentic vibe in terms of the interior. The food was very good as well. We tried the baked french toast with apples and the Santa Fe scramble. Wow, that scramble was delicious and the perfect bite of flavors! It had black beans, sweet potato, corn fritters, eggs, feta, and tomatoes. It was so tasty. I highly recommend it. I would come back here again!
This place was hopping. It was lunch hour and the wait was about 10 minutes. We were served right away. The food was good. The chicken and dumplings could have better hotter. The French toast was like a dessert. The grilled chicken was basic but the okra was yummy. The broccoli casserole was pretty good too. The cornbread was on the dry side but tasted good. The place was loud when it was full. Once it cleared out a little bit the noise level dropped significantly
A staple for brunch/breakfast foods! I can't tell you what makes their oatmeal taste better than the kind I make at home but it's always a great experience and kid friendly as well
Great, solid, no-frills brunch spot. Entire menu looks great. Had a long wait but I took this as a positive sign. Food was well worth it! I got the biscuits & gravy and it was excellent. If comfort breakfast & lunchy food is what you're looking for while in the area, this is the perfect spot.
A nice diner, worth the trip! I love a good diner and I was generally rather impressed by Elmo's. Though the place was clearly busy, we were seated almost immediately. From the start, the service was quick, friendly, and attentive; our server was funny and kind, which got our visit started off on the right foot. The food was lovely. I had the biscuits and gravy while my friend had an omelette. Both were good--I'd certainly order the same thing again if I could. As for ambiance (Yelp always wants me to write something on this lol), it's a diner. It's a cute diner at that--very classic, very cozy. If you're expecting a diner atmosphere, you'll get exactly what you're looking for! All around a good visit. I'll be back when I'm in town next!
I recently tried their salmon cake, and it was delicious. So, I took a pic to share! As always, there is great service and a relaxed atmosphere.
Food and service were fabulous! One of our party has a peanut allergy and they were super accommodating and respectful about it. Great American old fashioned diner vibes. Our favorite is the apples over waffles or baked French toast. Yum!
An excellent diner near the Duke campus. We ate here for breakfast during a recent visit on the recommendation from the local hotel and Yelp. The restaurant wasn't too busy and were able to find convenient parking in the adjacent lot. The menu had something for everyone. Traditional breakfast, vegetarian, and even Mexican options. We tried the grits, sausage biscuit, banana bread, and the chilaquiles. The coffee was actually very smooth and mild which I found quite exceptional. The service was friendly and prompt. The food came very quickly. Everything was delicious and well prepared. I found the prices to be very reasonable for the quality of the food provided. Food: 5 stars Service: 5 stars Value: 5 stars Overall: A great 5 star diner experience! I highly recommend Elmo's and look forward to coming back on my next visit.
My friend and I came for brunch on a Friday morning, and although it was a little busy, we were seated right away. The host and servers were friendly and I liked that the menu had tons of options - and that they were decently priced too! I ordered the custom 4 omelette with potatoes on the side and it came out quick. I wished that the add-in items I chose had been cooked into the omelette rather than just placed inside, but it still tasted good regardless. I wanted a latte, so I was a little disappointed when the waitress informed me that they don't serve specialty coffee drinks. I ended up ordering a black coffee with soy milk on the side instead which was fine, although I would've preferred a latte. If you want a good, quick, inexpensive meal this is the place to go, just keep in mind they don't do fancy coffees!
Nice little dinner we stopped in with a party of 6 at the end of breakfast and the beginning of lunch. We had to wait 20 minutes as they only have so many tables for 6. Excellent friendly staff very attentive to our table. The food was very good everyone cleaned their plates. Looking for a good dinner I will be back next time I'm in Durham
